ONE Excellent Shield Boss

These bosses are designed specifically for SCA heavy combat.

The Heavy version

The heavy version weighs 780 grams (a little under 1 3/4 lbs) and is made of blued mild heavy gauge steel (looking to be 10-12 ga).  This version would make the stout heart of a classic center grip shield and measures

8" flange diameter

5 1/2" pocket diameter

2" cup depth

The Light version

The Light version weighs 230 grams ( a little over 8 oz.) and is made of a high-density, high-durometer, injection-molded, nearly indestructible Sanoprene material. They have a slight amount of flexion that significantly absorbs shock.  These are a practical, lightweight, attractive, and consistent alternative to handmade bosses which are often less than perfect.

Measurements for the light version are:

8 1/4" flange diameter

5 5/8" pocket diameter

3" cup depth

Appearance

In appearance, this version features a black textured surface made to resemble hammered, blackened iron.  In form they have a deeper pocket for safety and to fit a variety of hand sizes.  Unlike any other non-metal bosses we've heard of, these are neither assembled from chunks of plastic nor made from something else; they're specifically designed and manufactured for SCA combat, with thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours invested in design, mold costs, and prototype runs. If you haven't seen one, you haven't seen anything like it; if you've never used one, you probably haven't found the last boss you'll ever use.

This armor exceeds all known world standards for protection.

Here are a few more pictures of the boss with a tape measure nearby to show the size of the armor.  Also note the handle and standoffs are indexed to fit the Sanoprene boss and make for an neat and easy installation.  If you'd like some of these components please select them from the menu above.   They truly rock and a great way to mount the boss.  No extra shipping charge on that, it's included in the price.    Handle and standoff prices reflect the tracking requirement for best shipping practice.
